Favorite Places

Here’s my short list (in no particular order) of favorite places to eat, sleep, drink, and just be in the south of France.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Casa Mare
Casa Mare is a beautiful 5 bedroom house located on the best street in old Antibes.  Recently renovated by my good friend Maren, Casa Mare is wonderfully decadent with heated bathroom floors and mirrors, professional kitchen, and the piece de resistance, an open-air terrace overlooking the red-tiled roofs of the old town.  Available for weekly rentals.  Check out Casa Mare’s website here and my review here.
Rue du bas Castelet
06600 Antibes, France

L’Hostellerie du ChateauCLOSED
If you really want to get your food groove on, then visit this exceptional restaurant and small hotel in Le Bar sur Loup. The village may be a bit out of the way, but trust me, it’s well worth the trip.  The food is sublime.  Read my review here.

Auberge de Gourdon
One of my favorite spots for lunch.  Casual, affordable, always delicious, and the drive up to Gourdon is spectacular.  If you’re lucky enough to arrive on a day when lamb is on the menu, order it!
Open for lunch only.

Cafe du Midi
If sometimes you just need a good hamburger and fries, then this little cafe in Tourrettes sur Loup is where you want to be.  Nothing fancy, but always affordable and tasty.

La Pizza
Always crowded with sometimes friendly, sometimes brusque service,
La Pizza never fails to deliver the best pizza you may ever put in your mouth.
Located on the old port in
Cannes.

Le Petit Cafe
A bit out of our neighborhood, but well worth a detour if you’re ever near the Provencal village of Oppede le Vieux. Sophisticated, sublime cuisine in a quiet, rustic setting.  Excellent local wine list and friendly service.

Domaine de la Source
A tiny, family owned vineyard clinging to the hills above Nice, Domaine de la Source produces ridiculously delicious wines. Walk the vines overlooking the Baou de St Jeannet then retire to the patio for a tasting and some home-made pizza and socca.  If you’d like to arrange a tour contact my good friend
Jean Pascal at Degustation Directe.
